Dear all,
A Journey of Beauty Captured: From Medical Student to Inspiring Artist.
As a medical student, the camera was a distant dream. Then, in 2012, retirement opened the door to photography. Equipped with curiosity and dedication, I embarked on a learning journey, mastering Photoshop and Lightroom and joining vibrant communities like ViewBug. A simple mantra – “keep shooting, anything looks beautiful” – became my guiding light.
Today’s technology empowers us to transcend mere picture-taking and create images fueled by imagination. While each photo tells a story, some ignite a spark of inspiration. This collection showcases landscapes, portraits, and nature’s wonders, aiming to evoke appreciation, gratitude, love, peace, and a sense of progress.
In 2017, an extraordinary opportunity arose. Starry Poetry (海星詩刊) editor Su-Fen Sung (宋淑芬, 莫云) invited me to collaborate with fellow photographer Li Tsu Kuo (郭立初), contributing 40 images for their members. These visuals were intended to inspire poetry based on individual interpretations. The culmination was an “Image-Poetry” (詩的影像) exhibition at the Taipei City’s Arts and Literature Salon (藝文沙龍). Witnessing the poets delve into the depths of our photos, extracting hidden truths, was a humbling experience. Their poems became a mirror reflecting the unseen beauty and complexity we had captured.
The lyrics (poem) resonated with Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” a testament to the profound connection between art forms- poem and image vs. music and painting. This journey, initially fueled by a medical background, demonstrates the universal potential for positive interpretation.
With joy, I present these inspirational images. I hope they spark your imagination and, more importantly, enable you to always look into the bright side of everything while pursuing your dreams in life (rueysung.viewbug.com).
Best wishes,
Ruey
